One of the major conflicts that Arnold faces in this book is between his "part-time Indian" self at in Wellpinit, where he is known as Junior, and his Reardan self, Arnold. Arnold's perseverance is key to his survival throughout the novel. He is a fighter and has hope and persistence. He is an artist and expresses himself through his words and drawings. Thankfully, Arnold is thought of differently in Reardan.Īrnold has many unique characteristics. He is picked on and bullied for being different than the others on the reservation. This also means that he is at risk of brain damage and seizures. But, it turns out that he's one of the best players on the team.
