![]() ![]() The story is set in Cloisterham, a lightly fictionalised Rochester (in Kent, England). Neville Landless and Edwin Drood take a dislike to one another the moment they meet. Miss Bud is Drood's fiancée, and has also caught the eye of the high-spirited and hot-tempered Neville Landless! Landless comes from Ceylon with his twin sister, Helena. The novel is named after Edwin Drood, one of the characters, but it mostly tells the story of his uncle, a choirmaster named John Jasper, who is in love with his pupil, Rosa Bud. ![]() It is a mystery indeed the serial novel was just half completed at the time of Dickens' death - leading to much speculation on how it might have ended. The final result was a mildly funny, sort of strange mash-up of everything they wanted the book to be but without ever really being successful. They are no Tina Fey or Mindy Kaling when it comes to comedy writing, that's for sure. I feel like the book couldn't decide if it wanted to be a parody, comedy book, or something more true to life. ![]() Take all of those things away and make them try to get that same dynamic on paper and it's. Trixie and Katya are hilarious just riffing off one another, and I think it's a combination of their quick wit, facial expressions, and sound effects that makes it so special. I religiously watch their YouTube show, UNHhhh (if you haven't watched it, you must), and I laugh throughout the whole thing. I'm a huge Drag Race fan, and I love my comedy queens, so of course I'm obsessed with Trixie and Katya. This pains me deep in my fan-girl heart to say, but Trixie and Katya's Guide to Modern Womanhood wasn't as funny or as clever as it wanted to be. ![]() ![]() ![]() We all have our “Darcys” of the world…our “Roarkes” of the world…but what about an honest look at love? Darcy and his kind show us a romantic love…but this book shows you an honest love. He wants the reader to not only see what is going on with the characters, he wants them to understand it as well….įirst, the book itself….wow…just wow…This one has opened my eyes wide….We all have our romantic images of love. He explains what is happening to the characters, explains their thoughts and actions as if he is looking down upon them from above, watching them as if they are players on a stage. It is almost as if he has thought out what he wants the book to be and then sits down to present it to a potential reader. It is not only written by Milan Kundera, it is also narrated by him. This is a book that is odd in its writing style, but it suited the book perfectly. I would use this book in my classroom to talk about family and who may have a little sibling like this. He will be holding his head or rolling his eyes so we can tell he is annoyed. You can see the body language that the older brother is showing when he is frustrated with his little sister. The illustrations in this book (and all Little Critter books) are very cute and show emotion very well. Until… the very end of the story, the little sister has a candy cane and he wants her to share and guess what, she does. This drives the big brother crazy and he gets tired of having to include her in everything. The story is about a big brother and a little sister who wants to do everything that her big brother does. It is a trade book and in some ways, a predictable book.
